I designed and developed SODIS X, an innovative device that uses the combined effects of UV radiation and heat from sunlight to disinfect drinking water. Improving upon the scientifically researched and internationally recognized SOlar water DISinfection (SODIS) process, SODIS X is effective and can provide safe drinking water in fewer than 3 hours. The innovative design is easy to use, safe, inexpensive, light, compact, and can be produced with local materials.
I developed SODIS X as part of the UpWater project, which endeavored to improve the drinking water quality of low-income families in rural areas. I was the principle investigator of UpWater and received support from the Stars in Global Health program of Grand Challenges Canada.
The photo gallery below provides brief descriptions of how SODIS X works and how effective it is.
